dr. Richard Starmans

Bio

Richard Starmans is managing director van The Netherlands Research School for Information and Knowledge Systems (SIKS). Tevens is hij als Associate Professor verbonden aan de Universiteit van Tilburg.

Hij doet onderzoek en publiceert op het snijvlak van filosofie en exacte wetenschappen, meer in het bijzonder wiskundige statistiek, data science en Artificial Intelligence. In het in 2016 verschenen "Handbook of Big Data" (Buelmann e.a., Chapman & Hall/CRC, New York, 2016)) schreef hij het hoofdstuk over de grondslagen van Data Science getiteld: "The Advent of Data Science - some considerations on the unreasonable effectiveness of data ". In 2018 verscheen onder meer het artikel "The Predicament of Truth: on Statistics, Causality, Physics and the Philosophy of Science in "Targeted Learning in Data Science: Causal Inference for Complex Longitudinal Studies" (Mark J. Van der Laan e.a.), Springer Series in Statistics, Springer.
