What are the terms and conditions for studying abroad?
You must have passed all your first-year subjects. Furthermore, you must have a high degree of proficiency in the language of the destination country. The Faculties each have their own specific rules.
Can I choose where to study abroad?
Yes, in the sense that you as an exchange student can make a choice from what is offered by your destination university or that you choose one of the many university destinations offered by your own university. If you want to attend a university that is not associated with Tilburg University, then you can go as a "free mover", which means all the preparations and all costs incurred during your stay will be for your own expense.
How long can I study abroad?
That depends on the arrangements made with the university in question. As an exchange student, you can usually stay one semester and a maximum of two semesters (one academic year). In most cases you can stay one semester. These periods also apply for "free movers".
Studying abroad must be very expensive, what about the tuition fees?
During your stay abroad you will only pay your tuition fees to Tilburg University. The host university may ask you to make a one time payment of about € 315 and it will give you an estimate of what a semester will cost you. That amount is usually somewhere between € 5.000 and € 10.000. This amount should cover most of your expenses (including clothing, eating, rent, books, etc.). The host university will ask you to provide proof that you will be able to cover these expenses.
Can anyone go and study abroad?
No. First you must pass all your first-year subjects and you can study abroad as an exchange student only once per Bachelor's program.
What must I do if I want to study abroad?
First, you need to make an appointment with the internationalization coordinator from your school at Tilburg University to let him/her know of your wishes and to discuss the opportunities. This is where it all starts.
Several information sessions are organized during the Let 's go Campaign (Wil Weg Week).
If I want to study abroad, when can I go?
You can send in your application as soon as you know for sure that you want to study abroad and you have a destination university in mind.
If you are selected, please take into account that you will have to make all the arrangements a year before you can actually go and study abroad.
