Changed enrollment Blackboard courses
From June 4th self enrollment will be disabled for most Blackboard courses of this academic year (2011-2012). From then on you can enroll via the lecturer.
Also, a year will be added to the course ID. This will not affect the functionality of the course.

New service launched: Secure FileSender

Secure FileSender is a web based application that allows students and staff of Tilburg University to securely and easily exchange files with other users.

If you ever encountered these problems...

  • You need to send a file larger than a couple of megabytes to someone and the email comes back: attachment too big.
  • You need to share a file with sensitive data with someone and don't want to use e-mail for distribution.
... then Secure FileSender is the solution!

With Secure FileSender you can upload a file up to 10 GB to a secured server within our university's infrastructure, send a mail with a download link to someone, have the file available for download for a certain amount of time, and have the file automatically deleted once the time span has elapsed.
Furthermore you can send users outside Tilburg University an upload voucher, to allow them to use Secure Filesender as well and share a file with you.

Want to be a buddy during the summer holidays? Between 12 July and 10 August 2012 Tilburg University Summer School takes place. In this position you will support activities of the Social Program during 4 weeks. You can think of movie nights, a day trip to Amsterdam or the farewell BBQ.

The central web team of Tilburg University is searching for enthusiastic students who can assist for at least 16 hours per week during the Web 2.0-project.
The project implies that the TiU websites will be transferred to a new operating system (Content Management System). Your activities will be transferring articles from the current CMS to the new CMS, according to the new quality standards.
Do you have a good knowledge of Dutch and English language? Can you work precise and concentrated? Then you might be the candidate we are looking for!

Early birds certain of a PC in the library
The Student Advisory Board Library and IT Services (LIS), SALIS (in short) has asked the organization to take a number of PC out of the reservation system so early birds can certainly use a computer at the library.

Exit-mail
When you register as a student at Tilburg University, you receive an ANR, user name, e-mail address and a password. With these details you have access to applications such as Blackboard and your student mail. When you terminate your registration at Tilburg University all these admissions will be withdrawn, you won't have access to the student facilities anymore.

As from the end of April a change takes place in the deregistration process. In the past a so-called exit was performed once every year, whereby all student facilities were withdrawn. As from the end of April all students who terminate their registration at Tilburg University will receive an exit-mail directly. Through this e-mail repeal of the facilities is confirmed. From the moment of deregistration you still have access to the applications for one month. During this period you can still login, read your mail and you have the possibility to save important mail elsewhere. After one month this is not possible anymore. If you receive an exit-mail when you haven't terminated your registration at the university or you think you should have access to the student facilities, please go to the Student Desk

Blackboard app available!
From now on students and teachers can access their Blackboard courses and organizations from their mobile phone, pad or tab. For every device optimized software is provided. In this way specific features of every device are used optimally.

New functionalities
A large part of the Blackboard functionalities is already optimized for mobile devices. Teachers can for example place announcements and students can check lecture slides and can join the discussion board from their mobile phone, pad of tab.

The Blackboard functionalities will be further optimized and extended based on user experiences. An example of a new functionality is the dashboard function. This function makes it clear to users which items are recently placed into the Blackboard courses/organizations.

Access
Blackboard is accessible via 3G and Wifi through the Blackboard Mobile Learn App. This App is available for the the mobile platforms iOS, Android and webOS in the various App stores/markets. For iOS two versions are available; one for the iPhone/iPod Touch and one for the iPad. After launching the App, you can find the Blackboard Mobile Learn environment as 'Tilburg University'.

You can now find the electronic text of citations in Google Scholar.
For a part of the articles from Google Scholar you have access to the full text via one of the many subscriptions of Tilburg University. As from now beneath all that articles there is a link marked "Fulltext via TiUfinder". Through the link you"ll get into the TiUfinder (Get It!) where you"ll subsequently receive a link to the full text.

Click on the image to zoom

The link to the TiUfinder appears automatically when you search via a PC on the Tilburg University campus, or when you have a VPN connection. However, you can let the link show at any location. For this please go to preferences of Google Scholar and choose "tilburg university" below Library Links. NB: In most cases a VPN connection is still required for access to the full text.

Paper publications
If there isn't access to the full text, it can still be possible to search in our collection to a paper version of the article. For this please use the link "Paper copy via TiUfinder" or "Find print via TiUfinder". Through this link you can search in the Library collection of Tilburg University. However, it is not guaranteed that you will actually find the title.

Google Scholar decides for which citations the links are shown.

Valentine's Day: send a declaration of love via the screens on campus
On Tuesday 14 February a Valentine action takes place on the Tilburg University campus. During the day you'll have the chance to send your crush declaration of love through huge screens on campus. How? Very simply, via Twitter! Post a tweet with #lovewall on that day and this will be shown immediately on the screens all over the campus. Ideal to surprise your Valentine!

Would you like to have a picture taken of you with your Valentine? You can! Several photographers and camera crews are present to take pictures of you and your greatest love. These pictures are also shown on the screens on campus. Rather stay anonymous? No problem. The teams can send out anonymous tweets for you via a twitter account specially created for this day.

No excuses this year to let this day pass by unnoticed. We'll see you 14 February!

This action is made possible by Livewall and Kweekcommunicatie and can be followed by checking the television screens throughout the Tilburg University campus.

Abracadabra in the Netherlands Central Catalogue
If you use Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9 and go to the Netherlands Central Catalogue (NCC), you’ll see that the NCC/Picarta does not work properly. After login you e.g. see a window with various digits, letters and plus signs.

an example of the compatibility view button The cause of this problem is that the NCC pages are not yet ready for Internet Explorer 9. However, it is possible to get a proper view with the compatitibility view in Internet Explorer 9. Click on the pictogram in your browser in order to get a correct view.
