Studying for exams

Illness during exams

If you are not able to take an exam due to illness or other mitigating circumstances, you can catch up the missed exam at the regular resit. If there are special circumstances, please contact the education coordinator.

Additional information per School

Each school has its own rules for canceling your registration for an exam. Learn which procedures and conditions apply by checking your program’s Education and Examination Regulations (EER).

Economics and Management

Only notify your program coordinator if missing the exam will cause you to fall seriously behind with your studies.

Humanities and Digital Sciences

If, due to special circumstances, you cannot or have not been able to participate in the examination opportunities offered, this does not entitle you to a substitute examination: therefore, there are two examination opportunities per year. If in a academic year you do not participate in the first examination opportunity offered, you will use the other examination opportunity. Special circumstances such as illness or sudden personal problems do not lead to a substitute examination. Only in very exceptional situations can this rule be deviated from individual cases.

If there are special personal circumstances or if you have a chronic illness, you must adjust your study schedule. The education coordinator can help you with this.

Law

There are two examination opportunities per academic year. If you cannot participate in one examination opportunity, you will use the other examination opportunity. Special circumstances such as illness or unexpected personal problems do not entitle you to a replacement examination. Only in very exceptional situations can the Examination Board deviate from this rule in individual cases.

If there are special (personal) circumstances or in the case of a chronic illness, it is possible that you cannot participate in all exam opportunities and that you have to adjust your study planning. The education coordinator can help you with this.
