During her exchange semester at the University of Cape Town, Eva Ruzius, third-year student of the Bachelor Global Law participated in a student challenge. This challenge was organized as part of OCW's knowledge mission to South Africa. Eva and her group presented a solution to the challenge ''How can HEIs equip graduates with the right skills to implement a circular economy in the different economic sectors graduates will be employed". With this solution, they won the challenge.

Three themes were selected for this challenge: labor market absorption, circular economy in relation to education and dropout in the South African TVET sector. Four groups of students participated in each theme, and for each theme the best group was allowed to present the solution they had come up with during the finals in Pretoria, in the presence of the delegation to the knowledge mission.

If I have learned anything from my experience in South Africa, it is in the words of Nelson Mandela, 'it always seems impossible until it's done'.

The students, four students from South Africa and Eva, worked out the solution through virtual collaboration over a 2-week period. They did this under the guidance of a coach. All this was done in addition to attending regular education at the University of Cape Town. All in all, for Eva a beautiful and challenging experience with a fantastic and satisfying end result. The winning team was allowed to join the delegation at the Innovation Village on Wednesday afternoon where they had the opportunity to meet Kind Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima.
