Expertise

`Be yourself, make your own choices, be authentic'. These often heard expressions are very popular nowadays. Each in its own way they tell people that they have to make their own life. However, the self is much too confined to provide a meaning: it is vulnerable; it is mortal; and such a mission is far too tall an order for it. As a consequence, those who want to rely on themselves to give their life a meaning experience a void, which manifests itself as ennui.
