2008-1999 Associate Professor of Moral Theology/ Care Ethics

1992-1982 Study Secretary of the Association of Dutch Women Religious

Career

Trained in the fields of theological ethics and women's studies, I became interested in the ethics of care. Thanks to my first job as a study secretary of the Dutch Association of Women Religious I became aquinted with the practice and the history of the tradition of charity. The theme of my dissertation was the concept of 'autonomy', critically evaluated from the fields of ethics, philosophy of history, and literature. The dissertation was published in English as well, entitled Longing for the Fall (Kampen 1995). As an associate professor I developed the ethics of care in two directions: the reflection on today's professional health care, and historical practices of charity. The positive reception of my concept 'professional loving care' led to a regular involvement in trajectories of change amongst health care workers. My chair bridges the fields of care ethics and charity.
