dr. Laurens de Graaf (1977) studied Public Administration at the Radboud University in Nijmegen (The Netherlands) and defended his PhD at Utrecht School of Governance, Utrecht University in May 2007. Since May 2006 he is working as an assistant professor at the Tilburg School of Politics and Public Administration, Tilburg University. His current research is about participatory policymaking, support, best persons, neighbourhood governance, local democracy, urban governance. He is also a lecturer in several undergraduate and graduate courses.

  • IPA2012 big succes!
     The 7th IPA (interpretive policy analysis, 2012) conference was a big success. Over 300 people all around the world participated, presented their research and discussed. see for pictures: flickr.com/photos/tsppa IPA2013 will be held in Vienna. 
  • Book on Exemplary Practitioners published
    Our book on Exemplary practtioners in deprived urban areas is presented on 5th November 2012. The book is in Dutch, but we are working on an international version.

PHD in Public Administration

On the 10th May 2007 Laurens de Graaf succesfully defended his Ph.D. thesis at Utrecht School of Governance, Utrecht University, The Netherlands. It was titled:

Graaf, L.J. de (2007), Stakeholder Support in Participatory Policymaking. The study has been published in Dutch at Eburon Academic publishers.

dr. de Graaf was supervised by prof. dr. Mark Bovens, prof. dr. Tejo Spit and dr. Gerrit Hagelstein.

MA in Public Administration

He studied Public Administration at the Radboud University Nijmegen (1998-2001).

dr. Laurens de Graaf is member of the Local Court of Auditors of Gorinchem city. This court supports the control function of the city council. It conducts indepent (and politcally relevant) research for the city council.

dr. Laurens de Graaf was organizer (and co-chair; together with Merlijn van Hulst and Tamara Metze) of the 7th Interpretive Policy Analysis conference, which was held on 4-7 July 2012 at Tilburg University. dr. Laurens de Graaf was visiting fellow at the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research (NIBR) in june 2010.

dr. Laurens de Graaf was a member of the Executive Board of the Tilburg School of Politics and Public Administration from May 2006 until December 2010. He was manager of internal affairs (finance, personnel, strategy) and research coordinator.
