Expertise
When people speak, they usually produce all kinds of gestures with their hands. What cognitive processes influence the production of such gestures and what does this tell us about how and why gestures are produced? Using an experimental approach, I test how several factors, such as: a speaker's mental image of the addressee, computer mediation, the difficulty of a (secondary) task, low level priming (alignment), and aphasia affect gesture production, thereby revealing more about the functions of gesturing and the cognitive processes underlying it.
