Projects

Use of the Old Testament in Early Christianity

The object of my research is the use of the Old Testament in the Gospel (and to a certain extent the First Epistle as well) of John and especially in the Epistle of Barnabas. Both John and Barnabas are documents in which Israels Holy Scriptures are read in a Jewish way but receive an anti-Jewish interpretation. How does scriptural interpretation help the Johannine Christians and the group from which the Epistle of Barnabas came, to position themselves vis-a-vis non-Christian Jews and others that do not belong to their own group? The project will continue until the end of 2012, for 0.4 fte.
