Biography

Nienke van Boom MSc MA is lecturer and researcher at the department of Leisure Studies at Tilburg University. She graduated in Leisure Studies (Tilburg) in 2006 and European Urban Cultures-POLIS (Brussels, Tilburg, Manchester and Helsinki) in 2007. Nienke teaches in several courses of the (pre)-Master Leisure Studies and the POLIS-programme. She is co-author and editor of the publication 'Comeback Cities. Transformation strategies for former industrial cities' (NAi Publishers, 2009), a study of the redevelopment strategies of European textile cities. Nienke's theme of interest is the role of leisure and culture in (the organization of) urban and regional development. In addition to her professional interest, she enjoys to explore cities and their offerings during her free time as well.
