My field of research is modern and contemporary philosophy with a focus on Hegel and Habermas. Important themes are multicultural society, morality and its institutional forms.

  • 1979-1983: Several positions at Crea, the cultural organisation of the University of Amsterdam, including head of the Studium Generale department and lecturer at Studium Generale;
  • 1982-1986: NWO-researcher University of Amsterdam;
  • 1989: Lecturer in Ethics at the Catholic University of Utrecht;
  • 1990-1993: Assistant Professor of Ethics, Leiden University; Assistant Professor of Social Philosophy, Tilburg University;
  • 1993-today: Professor of History of Modern and Contemporary Philosophy, Tilburg University.
