Expertise

Research Statement: My research focuses on the product element of firms' marketing mix. From a consumer perspective I study how preferences depend on the composition and presentation of the set of product offerings. From the firm perspective I investigate how manufacturers and retailers can incorporate such context-dependent preferences when optimizing their set of product offerings. When taking the consumer perspective I calibrate behavioral choice models on data collected from computerized choice experiments. To study the firm perspective I construct new model of assortment-based substitution on scanner data. The common denominator of my research is the integration of techniques and insights from marketing, psychology, statistics, and operations research. I use Bayesian statistics for model inference and apply state-of-the-art OR techniques to solve the large-scale optimization problems.

Substantive Interests: Assortment, Behavioral Decision Making, Category Management. Context Effects, New Product Development, Product Customization, Product Line Design, Retailer-Manufacturer Partnerships, Retailing, Social Media.

Methodological Interests: Bayesian Statistics, Choice Modeling, Combinatorial Optimization, Conjoint Analysis, Operations Research, Robust Optimization.
