Expertise

My primary expertise lies within the field of ritual studies, with a special interest in the role of material culture in the dynamics of changing rituals.

Thematically my interest lies with the influence of modernisation on religion and ritual in general and (collective) rites of commemoration in particular.

My current PhD research brings these various aspects together in a comparison of Catholic, Protestant and non-ecclesial rites of collective commemorations in the Netherlands since the 1990's.
