Anne-Marie de Brouwer (Ph.D., LL.M.) is co-founder and team member with IMPACT: Center against Human Trafficking and Sexual Violence in Conflict (www.impact-now.org). She is also a research fellow with the International Victimology Institute Tilburg (INTERVICT) at Tilburg University, the Netherlands. Furthermore she is the co-founder and chair of the Mukomeze Foundation, which aims to improve the lives of women and girls who survived sexual violence during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. From 2008-2016, she was an Associate Professor in international criminal law at the Department of Criminal Law at Tilburg University. Earlier (2006-2007) she was an Associate Legal Officer at the NGO Women's Initiatives for Gender Justice in The Hague and a PhD researcher and Assistant Professor in international (criminal) law (2000-2006) at Tilburg University.
Her main areas of research, teaching and interest include international crimes, international criminal law and procedure, victims' rights, gender, victimology, conflict-related sexual violence and transitional justice. De Brouwer is the author of over 40 publications in these fields, including the book "Supranational Criminal Prosecution of Sexual Violence: The ICC and the Practice of the ICTY and the ICTR (Oxford-Antwerp: Intersentia, 2005)", for which she received the Max van der Stoel Human Rights Award 2006. She also co-edited the book "The Men Who Killed Me: Rwandan Survivors of Sexual Violence (Douglas & McIntyre, 2009)", which features seventeen testimonials and photos of survivors of sexual violence in conflict. Other co-edited works include "Victimological Approaches to International Crimes: Africa (Intersentia, 2011)", "Sexual Violence as an International Crime: Interdisciplinary Approaches (Intersentia, 2013)" and "ELGAR Companion to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd, 2016)".
In 2013, she was awarded a high Royal distinction ("Dame"/"Knight") in the Order of Oranje-Nassau for her academic and societal work concerning conflict-related sexual violence.
