Bio

Irene works as Assistant Professor Cybercrime Law and Human Rights at TILT. She is also affiliated researcher at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Irene obtained a joint doctorate degree from Tilburg University and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She has conducted research for the European Commission, the Dutch National Cyber Security Agency, the European Cybersecurity Agency and others. She is invited as external expert evaluator of EU funded proposals. Irene is a member of the ENISA Experts List for assisting in the implementation of its Annual Work Programme and of the CEN-CENELEC/BTWG 3 'STAIR' on STAndardization, Innovation and Research. Irene was the winner of the 2021 Standards+Innovation Individual Researcher award of the European Standardisation Organisations. She is qualified attorney-at-law and was practicising for several years before joining academia.Since August 2022, Irene is the Research Coordinator at TILT.
