Eleonore Stump (1947) studied classical languages and biblical studies at Harvard University and received her PhD in medieval philosophy from Cornell University in 1975.

She was affiliated with several universities before becoming a full professor at Saint-Louis University in 1992. She has published on medieval philosophy, the philosophy of religion, and modern metaphysics and has devoted books to the thought of Thomas Aquinas, among others. In 2013, the American Catholic Philosophical Association awarded her the Aquinas medal.

A recipient of multiple awards and recognitions, she also served as president of the Society of Christian Philosophers and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, among others.
