Hans-Dieter Klingemann (Einbeck, 1937) is a German sociologist, who studied business economics in Cologne from 1957 to 1961, where he received his PhD in 1966 on the topic Bestimmungsgründe der Wahlentscheidung.

Prof. dr. Hans-Dieter Klingemann

From 1980 to 2002, he was Professor of Political Science at the Freien Universität Berlin, after which he held further professorships at the University of Warsaw, New York University in Abu Dabhi, and Stellenbosch University in South Africa. His scholarly work focused on the functioning of democracies and electoral and party systems in a comparative perspective.

Klingemann was also involved in the European Values Studies, a longitudinal study of values and norms.
