Newspapers in our collection

by Richard Broekman on June 12th, 2023

Did you know our digital collection includes many newspapers? In fact, we have access to so many newspapers, it is impossible for us to list all of them in our Journal List! We do aim to add the most important international newspapers to our journal list though, so you can still search for those and see if we have access.

If you are interested in a larger selection of newspapers, or perhaps more regional ones, we have got you covered. Check out some of the databases below or search our list of databases for the newspapers keyword.

Dutch newspapers

We have two main databases containing the text of Dutch newspapers:

  • Nexis Uni has the full text of newspaper articles from main Dutch newspapers like de Volkskrant and De Telegraaf. Content covers the past decade(s) of newspapers.
  • Delpher is an archive of Dutch newspapers broadly covering 1618-2005. This can be quite useful for historical research.

International newspapers

There are at least three databases offering a large selection of newspapers from all over the world. These have mainly English language publications, but often also include some papers in Arabic, French, Spanish and other languages.

  • Gale Research Complete has a dedicated section called Gale Onefile News which covers over 2,000 newspapers, including The Guardian.
  • Newsbank is a databases that focuses on news and includes over 7,500 newspapers in multiple languages, including The Times. Many journals are not only presented as full text but also as full images of the actual paper editions.
  • Factiva is not a dedicated newspaper database but does contain the articles of a number of newspapers, from regional to international.

Individual newspapers

In addition to databases that hold the text of newspaper articles, we also offer access to a number of newspaper sites directly, through an institutional login.
