Libguide on APA 7 now available
by Anja Habraken
In late January, the library launched two new libguides on APA Style: a Dutch-language and an English-language manual to the citation guidelines outlined in the 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA).
A major change from the 6th edition is that the 7th edition no longer prescribes a retrieval date for references to online sources (mainly websites). A very small category of sources, which are changeable and not archived, does still require a retrieval date. Furthermore, the 7th edition of the Publication Manual includes, for the first time, specific guidelines for style, formatting and layout of student papers.
The library's new easy-to-use APA manuals are designed for students who need to write a paper or thesis. Covered are in-text citations, direct quotations (text, as well as figures and tables), and the reference list. Section 4 contains 135+ examples of the most common references, each with corresponding in-text citations.
The English-language manual can be found at https://libguides.uvt.nl/apa-manual.
The old PDF manual on the APA 6th edition will be available until the end of June. After that, it will be removed.
