Tilburg University offers outstanding employee benefits, as well as an inspiring work environment and exciting campus life. 

Collective Labor Agreement, the Terms and Conditions of Employment Options Model, and pensions

The Collective labor Agreement for Dutch universities contains the regulations on employee salaries, holidays and leaves of absence, and flexible working hours. A year-end bonus (“13th month”) is also issued annually. A general outline of the CLA is provided on www.labouragreementuniversities.nl. 

In addition to this, we offer our employees an option we call the Terms and Conditions of Employment Options Model. This plan allows you to choose from a number of extra perks that you feel are best for you. Examples include commuter travel reimbursement, reimbursement for your internet subscription, or a contribution towards the purchase of a bicycle. Every year, the university will issue you an extra, tax-free, monetary contribution to use in choosing optional perks from your Terms and Conditions of Employment Options Model.

As a university employee, you will build up a pension plan in the ABP Pension Fund. You can have the pension plan you have accumulated with your current employer transferred to the ABP Pension Fund. Supplementary survivor’s pensions or other supplementary pensions are also available through the ABP plan.

Balance between professional and private life

To foster a well-balanced professional and private life for our employees, we offer generous holiday packets and provisions for special leave of absence. Full-time employees, for instance, have 41 paid holidays per year and partially paid parental leave options. Our employees also have a great deal of freedom to structure and organize their own work. Employees can set up agreements with their supervisors concerning their working hours. In addition, employees may – in consultation with their supervisor – arrange to work from home, or some other location. Tilburg University staff and students in need of child care can use the bilingual child care center on the outskirts of the campus.

Insurance plans

Tilburg University has collective agreements with the following insurance providers: CZ-groep, Loyalis and Centraal Beheer. This gives our employees access to a large range of very affordable private insurance plans, including for health and disability coverage.

Culture, social life and fitness

The benefits of working at Tilburg University include the many opportunities to participate in our exciting campus life. The newly renovated Sports Center features facilities for numerous sports, including tennis, volleyball and tai chi. It opens early to give employees the chance to start off the day with an invigorating workout. Studium Generale regularly organizes lectures, discussions, exhibitions, talk shows and musical performances on campus. Snacks, cocktails, meals and great coffee are available at horeca facilities throughout the campus.

Welcome Expats

For our international colleagues, we would highly recommend joining the Tilburg International Club. The university will cover your membership dues, including for your family members, for the first two years. We also reimburse part of the contribution for the International School of your children through the options model.
