Pascal Böni appointed as Professor of Practice in Finance & Private Debt

Tilburg University has appointed Dr. Pascal Böni as Professor of Practice in Finance & Private Debt, effective January 1, 2021. Böni is the CEO of Remaco, a Swiss advisory and securities firm and member of Nexia International. He is also Associate Professor of Finance at TIAS, the business school of Tilburg University and Eindhoven University of Technology. He will be the managing director of the newly established Tilburg Institute for Private Debt (TiPD), a joint initiative of the Departments of Accounting and Finance at Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TiSEM). The purpose of this appointment is to strengthen the research and education in the field of private debt and to intensify the collaboration with private debt professionals and academics in this fast growing industry.

Contribution to research

Böni’s research will focus on bridging the gap between theory and practice in the field of finance and private debt. Research topics will include the role of private debt in corporate finance, the analysis of the pricing and the performance of private debt assets as well as a variety of investor centered research topics. As the managing director of TIPD he shall facilitate the co-operation with suppliers of high quality research data as well as researchers from other leading universities active in the field.

Contribution to education

The teaching activities in the context of this professorship will entail, on the one hand, providing executives and students with knowledge related to asset pricing, corporate financing and investing, in the field of private debt. Böni will develop joint educational programs between the Departments of Accountancy and Finance at TiSEM and practice. These may entail continuing professional education for business executives and government professionals, but also graduate and post-graduate degree- as well as non-degree program students. Böni will also be advising and co-promoting PhD projects that require substantial input from practice and that bridge the gap between applied research and fundamental research. As a Professor of Practice, he will be an inspiring role model for students, given his connection with the practical field. The size of the appointment is 0.2 FTE.

The Professor of Practice is a position for an innovative business leader or entrepreneur working in an internationally oriented company. In this way, Tilburg University wants to reinforce its impact on society and continue to strengthen its ties with practice.

Pascal Böni earned his PhD in Finance from Tilburg University's School of Economics and Management. He graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Simon Business School, the University of Rochester, New York (United States of America), and the University of Berne (Switzerland). He was also awarded the Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Management Consultancy from Henley Business School, University of Reading, Reading (UK) and the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Grenoble (ESG), Grenoble (France). Moreover, he gained an Executive Master of European and International Business Law (M.B-L.-HSG) from the Graduate School of Business, Economics, Law and Social Sciences at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland). After earlier positions in banking, he worked in leading consulting firms such as Roland Berger International Strategy Consultants and today as CEO and partner of Remaco (Switzerland), member firm of Nexia International, currently the 9th largest global network of independent accounting and consulting firms. Böni is also Associate Professor of Finance at TIAS, the business school of Eindhoven University and Tilburg University, where he teaches in the Executive Master in Finance (MiF) program.
