Catherine Robb is TSHD Teacher of the Year 2019
On May 16th the TSHD Teacher of the Year 2019 event took place and four nominated teachers gave a short lecture in front of a jury. This yearly event is organized by Fractie Dante / Dante Party.
After a consultation, keeping in mind that the lecture is only a snapshot of the whole educational process, the jury decided that the winner of this year’s election is Catherine Robb (Department of Philosophy).
Catherine’s main research interests are in ethics and political philosophy, particularly the nature and value of self-development and the implications this has for wellbeing, morality and equality. Underpinning Catherine’s research is an interest in the nature of philosophical methodology more generally, questioning the so-called boundary between ‘analytic’ and ‘continental’ philosophies.
As a teacher, Catherine tries to activate students by making sure that each lecture is interactive and she encourages students to tell their thoughts about the topic of the lecture. The content of the lecture is always balanced between explaining the theory and encouraging students to think about the practical implications of the theory. Besides being an excellent teacher, she is also a very energetic and trustful person, which makes her create a positive atmosphere in her lectures and makes her connect easily with the students.
We congratulate Catherine! Catherine will represent TSHD at the university wide Teacher of the Year event.
