Professor Jurgen de Poorter nominated as State Councilor

On Friday, June 10, 2022 the Dutch Cabinet decided to nominate Professor Jurgen de Poorter of Tilburg University as as State Councilor to the Administrative Jurisdiction Division of the Dutch Council of State.

With a number of State Councilors stepping down from office and the new Environment and Planning Act expected to enter into force on January 1, 2023, the Administrative Jurisdiction Division of the Council of State sought to renew its composition by appointing new members with proven competence and expertise in the field of administration, administrative law, or the administrative judicial system. Jurgen de Poorter will assume his duties at the Administrative Jurisdiction Division on September 1, 2022.

Professor Jurgen C.A. de Poorter (1974) is full Professor of Administrative Law at Tilburg Law School and since 2016 has also served as deputy judge at the Court of The Hague. He specializes in constitutional law, general administrative law, and procedural administrative law. He will continue as Professor at Tilburg University for one day a week.

De Poorter graduated in law at Tilburg University and went on to obtain his doctorate there in 2003 , having completed and successfully defended his PhD thesis, The interested party. A study of the meaning of the notion of interested party. In 2013, he was appointed part-time endowed Professor of Substantive and Procedural Administratve Law at Tilburg Law School, with particular regard to how law evolves in a democratic rule of law. He retained this position, alongside working as Council Adviser at the Council of State, until February 1, 2018, when he was appointed full Professor of Administrative Law.
