André van Rijs chosen national government laywer of the year by JuristenRijk
JuristenRijk, the Dutch association for lawyers working at national government authorities, has chosen Tilburg Law School's André van Rijs as most appealing lawyer at national governement level in the field of legal council. Van Rijs works at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment in The Hague, is a legal advisor and teaches social and labor law at Tilburg Law School. JuristenRijk is an association for lawyers working at Dutch government authorities.
The jury's chairman Siebe Riedstra, who is secretary-general at the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security, awarded the prize at the occasion of the 12.5 year anniversary of JuristenRijk. Van Rijs received a small sculpture, a study grant and a year's membership of JuristenRijk.
The prize is intended for appealing, professional government laywers who show extraordinary dedication to the quality of public governance. Van Rijs has devoted himself to legislation regarding normalization of the legal status of civil servants. A number of his former students have supported his election.
