Charissa Freese was interviewed about the role of HR with regards to the current technological advancements. She states that these developments make strategic personnel planning crucial. This requires knowledge about the fluctuations on the labor market and innovations that influence how we work.

However, very few organizations react on these trends and prepare their employees for these innovations. Organizations have to pay attention to what is known, or at least expected, about the future of work and invest in multiple career paths for their employees. Many fear their job will be replaced by a robot, but this fear is necessary to see why they should adapt, in order to prevent unemployment.

Unfortunately, in practice, HR is involved way too late, at the cost of ethics. Some tasks have to be performed by humans, not robots. And HR too needs to look at its added value in the future, like change management.
