Symposium on Classification Methods in the Social and Behavioral Sciences

Date: Time: 09:00 Location: Tilburg University

The first symposium on Classification Methods in the Social and Behavioral Sciences (CSBS) will be held at Tilburg University on Thursday, 17th of October, 2019 from 9:00—18:00. The goal of this one-day event is to exchange knowledge about latest methods and applications with room for informal discussions and the possibility to create a network in the field of classification.

There will be four sessions (from 9:00—17:00), respectively consisting of one keynote presentation and two presentations of PhD-candidates or other researchers. Topics will include, next to others, clustering methods, mixture models (for groups and longitudinal data), change point detection methods, and empirical illustrations. We are happy to announce our four keynote speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. E. Ceulemans (KU Leuven)
  • Prof. Dr. M.E. Timmerman (University of Groningen)
  • Dr. K. De Roover (Tilburg University)
  • Dr. K. Van Deun (Tilburg University)

After the final session, you are cordially invited to join us for some drinks (from 17:00—18:00). More details, including session topics and a detailed schedule, will follow soon!

Registration

If you would like to attend the symposium, please register before October 1, 2019 via

We advise to register soon because participation is free of charge but the maximum number of participants is 40.

Please note that there are still two slots to present your research (either about a method or its application thereof). If you would like to take this opportunity, we invite you to submit an abstract of max 300 words before September 1, 2019 via e-mail to CSBS@tilburguniversity.edu.

Catering during the day (coffee and lunch) will be provided by the Department of Methodology and Statistics at Tilburg University. At this point, we would like to thank IOPS (The Interuniversity Graduate School of Psychometrics and Sociometrics) for largely funding the symposium.
