Enhancing Effectiveness of Social Protection by Psycho-Social Support in Uganda and Ethiopia - Summary, November 2018
This study presents the effect of Psycho-Social Counselling on Social Protection in highly traumatized communities. The research was undertaken in Northern Uganda and Ethiopia during 2016 and 2017. The study compared off-line and on-line communities. The participants were selected in a migration context. The participants were members of communities with high levels of Post-Traumatic Stress.
Relevance of Communication in the Fight Against Human Trafficking, March 2018
This paper argues that trauma support delivered, utilizing the refugees’ own communication pathways, is key to successful integration of refugees reducing the risk of dangerous secondary migration. It shows the results of a case study regarding migration and human trafficking in the Horn of Africa.
Reprogramming the Mix of Interventions to Support Refugees in Host Communities, March 2018
This research focus on Eritrean refugees who reside in the refugee camps in Ethiopia and Sudan. The issues studied are (i) the modus operandi of human traffickers along the journeys of the refugees, (ii) coping strategies and resilience of unaccompanied minors in the refugee camps, (iii) the effectiveness of a Self-Help Low-Cost Post-Traumatic Stress program (SHLCPTSP) that raises awareness among refugees and inform about the prevalence and impact of trauma, and (iv) livelihood opportunities inside refugee camps in North-Ethiopia and Sudan.
Digital Realities in Human Trafficking: Bringing Safety to Refugee Camps, March 2018
The research focuses on the dynamics of migratory trajectories in the Horn of Africa. The issues investigated, are the modus operandi of the human traffickers along the route and other dangers and difficulties refugees encounter. Furthermore, the resilience of unaccompanied refugee minors in the refugee camps in North-Ethiopia is outlined.
Trauma and Livelihood Opportunities: Reprogramming Support in Refugee Camps, March 2018
This study investigates the needs for Eritrean refugees who reside in Ethiopian refugee camps. The focus is on refugees who suffer trauma and post-traumatic stress (PTS). A Self-Help Low-Cost Post-Traumatic Stress program (SHLCPTS) is developed for these refugees and is tested on 100 camp residents. This study also looks into livelihoods of the refugees and opportunities for income generation.

Causes and dynamics of mixed unskilled migrants trafficked within the Horn region. A study including Eritrea, Ethiopia and Sudan
This study of mixed migration and human trafficking explored its causes within dynamic information-sharing along the migration routes and across communities in locations where migrants or refugees are. This study was carried out in Sudan and Ethiopia, focusing on refugees from Eritrea withing host communities.
Cost-Benefit Analysis of Cash Transfer Programs and Post Trauma Services for Economic Empowerment of Women in Uganda (EWP-U) (2018)
This study investigates the effect of existing government-initiated social protection programs (cash and in-kind) and trauma counselling on economic development in Northern Uganda. It also examines the effect of a counselling program developed for this study, the Self-Help Low-Cost Post-Traumatic Stress program (SHLCPTS).
ICT-based Psycho-Social Trauma Relief in Refugee Camps in Ethiopia (2018)
This study investigates the possibilities for trauma relief on digital devices in low connectivity areas. The focus is on Eritrean refugees in refugee camps in Ethiopia who suffer trauma and post-traumatic stress (PTS). A Self-Help Low-Cost Post-Traumatic Stress program (SHLCPTS) is developed for these refugees and tested.
Refugees and Livelihood: A case study from Hitsats (2018)
This case-study investigates livelihood opportunities in Hitsats Eritrean Refugee Camp (North-Ethiopia), and looks at income generating possibilities for refugees. The study provides an overview of the positive effects of relief opportunities and addresses where improvement is necessary.
Secondary Migration and Mobile Phone Use in Hitsats (2018)
This case-study in Hitsats Eritrean Refugee Camp in North-Ethiopia outlines the mobile phone use in a low-connectivity context. It further looks at motives for, and incentives against secondary migration. The main focus is on Eritrean unaccompanied refugee minors and youth.

Change through Exchange: Exploring the role of international exchange in organisational development of care organisations (2018)
The study investigates how and why international exchange between two care organisations lead to individual and organisational change. The involved organisations include a care institution in The Netherlands and one in Malawi.
Refugee Community Radio: Baseline study, Sudan and Ethiopia (sept. 2016)
This document contains the report of a baseline study in Sudan and Ethiopia that aimed at creating more resilience among Eritrean refugee youth, and inform them about the dangers of human traffickers via radio.
