Research Department Philosophy

Research focuses on societally relevant issues and is characterized by the combination of philosophical research methods and insights from other disciplines. This research takes place within two research groups:

  • TiLPS (Tilburg Center for Moral Philosophy, Epistemology and Philosophy of Science) consists of both practical philosophers (moral and political philosophers) and theoretical philosophers (epistemologists and philosophers of science). They engage in philosophical reflection on the constitution, development, nature and meaning of moral and scientific practices, often taking into account current research in psychology and other disciplines.
  • PHC&E (Philosophy of Humanity, Culture, and Ethics) mostly works on modern and contemporary continental philosophy, such as phenomenology, critical theory and postmodern philosophy. Important research topics are: culture, art, identity, gender, race, democracy and social media.
