Library celebrates 25th anniversary

The World Wide Web was still in its infancy when the Library officially opened its doors on May 21st 1992 as Europe’s first digital library. Features such as the integrated desktop with access to scientific information, an automatic lending machine, hundreds of student workplaces equipped with computers had never been shown before.

We will celebrate this 25th anniversary on May 18 with various activities for students and staff.

Book launch

Many articles were published about the state-of-the-art University Library after it opened. These have now been collected in one volume by editor Pieter Siebers. The first copy will be presented on May 18, 2017. The book Een kwart eeuw bibliotheek van de toekomst en wat daaraan vooraf ging is also available online (in Dutch).

Inspirerende boeken

A number of university staff members have chosen their most inspiring or valuable book including a short statement explaining their choice. These books are on display near the Library entrance (on the left past the detector gates). These statements are also published on the webpage inspiring books.
