All you need to know about... Boris Johnson*
Boris Johnson has become the new British Prime Minister. How did he manage to do that? Was it charisma, the new political reality, or could he simply not be stopped, not even by himself? And what kind of PM is Boris? (language: English)
Time: 13:00-14:00 hrs. Admission is free. See also Facebook.
In the summer of 2016, the political career of Boris Johnson appeared to be all but over when, after the Brexit referendum, his leadership qualities were called into question. All the same, Theresa May, the new Prime Minister, named him Foreign Secretary, a position in which he was not very successful, resigning in 2018. He had his eyes on a greater prize.
Three years later, Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson is Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
In this meeting, Patrick Bernhart, author of Boris - Bestemming bereikt (Boris - Destination reached; only available in Dutch), will use video footage to show Johnson’s rise to the highest political office in the country. Who is he, what drives him, how does he come across, what Brexit scenarios are possible and what consequences do his words and actions have?
Patrick Bernhart is the author of the bestseller Tom Dumoulin: Wielerlegende in wording. With Jan Maarten Slagter, he wrote De koude kermis van KPN. Bernhart has lived in England for a number of years and closely follows British politics.
Book Boris – Bestemming bereikt
After the lecture, the book (rated 4-stars by NRC Handelsblad) is for sale.
