The psychology of greed
NIGHT TALK - For greedy people, tempation cannot be big enough. Marcel Zeelenberg gives an overview of recent research into the psychology of greed (language: Dutch).
Greed is the insatiable longing for more. Greed is often perceived as immoral and reprehensible but, surprisingly enough, hardly any psychological research has been done into what greed is and what it does. In Tilburg, a questionnaire has been developed to measure people’s level of greed. A series of studies showed that greedy people want more and take more and, to that end, are prepared to push the boundaries of the acceptable -- and sometimes to cross them. Marcel Zeelenberg, Professor of Economic Psychology, will give an overview of recent research into the psychology of greed.
