NIGHT TALK - As soon as we have an explanation for something, the temptation to simply believe that explanation is all but irresistible. Why are people so inclined?! (language: Dutch)

People can be silly creatures. They often can’t help believing things that are in essence ill-founded. They are tempted to just believe something. How does that happen? One possible explanation involves the ‘abductive’ structure of our brains. As soon as we have an explanation for something, the temptation to simply believe that explanation is all but irresistible, because it is an explanation. This makes philosopher of science Herman de Regt wonder: why are people so inclined?
