There are developments at Tilburg University in the field of real estate. These include the expansion and renovation of the educational and research facilities, but also the renovation of restorative facilities and the expansion of sports facilities.
Demolition of Prisma building
Early in 2021, we will start with the demolition of Prisma building. This building was constructed in the 1980s and no longer meets current standards and regulations. It will be demolished in preparation for the realization of the building.
New education building
On the northeastern corner of the campus, a new education building will be realized on the location of the current parking lot between the CUBE and TIAS buildings. When all the lecture halls and study areas are occupied, it will accommodate approximately 1,000 students and will partly replace the teaching spaces in Prisma building. It is going to be an extremely sustainable building, with a lot of attention being paid to circularity. For instance, the building will have an almost entirely detachable wooden supporting structure, unique for an educational building. The building will also be energy-neutral, which means that the building will produce all the energy it needs to function (not necessarily the energy used by the users), among other things through solar panels.
The integration of the landscape also receives a lot of attention: located in the northeastern corner, close to a residential area and adjacent to the railroad station, the location is striking. It functions as an inviting new gateway for train passengers arriving at the Tilburg University campus.
Construction is scheduled to commence in 2021 and will take several years.

An increase in students and staff has resulted in an increase in travel movements. Tilburg University is working on a mobility policy that strongly stimulates travel to and from the campus by public transport, bicycle, and other sustainable modes of travel. The possibilities for working from home are also being expanded. These measures will be accelerated from 2021 onwards. Nevertheless, there must be sufficient parking space to prevent inconvenience. The parking lot on the Warandelaan side is intended for this purpose. The nature and size of any additional parking spaces required is still being investigated.

New build for MindLabs
At the end of 2021, a new building of 12,000 m² will be realized, in Spoorzone next to the LocHal, that will house the MindLabs. It will be the building for innovation in areas such as robotics, language technology, serious gaming, and artificial intelligence. MindLabs is the name of a partnership op four parties: Fontys Hogescholen, Tilburg University, media company and Onderwijsgroep Tilburg/ROC Tilburg. https://mindlabsinprogress.nl/ (in Dutch)
In the summer of 2021, the interior of the Library building will be upgraded. In this mini renovation, which we carry out during the quiet summer months, we will recarpet, move part of the current book collection to level 2, carry out maintenance on installations, and upgrade the coffee corner. The Library will temporarily close its doors while the renovation is in progress.
New Build Sports Center
Since 1962, Tilburg University has had its own Sports Center. It is very popular among both students and staff. In order to continue to properly meet the sports needs of the rapidly increasing numbers of student athletes, it is necessary that we expand and redevelop our sports facilities.
TFT building partially demolished
In July 2021, a start will be made with the demolition of the TFT building. It does no longer meet current standards. Therefore, the building will be partially demolished to make room for a new building. The monumental part of the building will be retained and redesigned for different purposes.
Renovation Vigilant Building
In September, renovations will begin on the Vigilant building where Security is located. During the renovation, Security will be temporarily housed in K9 of the Koopmans building.
New building in Spoorzone for education, living and working
By establishing Mindlabs in the Spoorzone, we are already taking a step towards one of the most imaginative area developments in the Netherlands. Just like the campus on the Warandelaan, Tilburg University wants to create a place of encounter and connection. An educational building to be developed combined with living and working as a place for entrepreneurship by our students.
The Spoorzone will be an inspiring location with the best facilities for starting student businesses. A building that is all about cooperation, connecting and having an eye for each other and each other's talents. A breeding ground for new and unexpected opportunities with an important role for the relationship between teacher - student - business community.
This project has gone through the feasibility phase and is now continuing in a preliminary design process. After each phase of this project, it will be assessed whether it remains feasible and moves in the direction envisaged by Tilburg University, the municipality and the developer.
