Scribbr, the fast-growing "proofreading" service for theses of Tilburg University alumni Koen Driessen and Bas Swaen, is being acquired by the American company Course Hero.

Alumni Bas Swaen and Koen Driessen founded the company Scribbr in 2012. They had difficulty finding someone who was willing to check their theses for a reasonable amount of money. With Scribbr, students can easily and quickly have their theses checked by professional editors. Scribbr does not write the theses, but they check them for language and structure.

With software tools, but also through a network of 700 freelancers, the startup helps students with correct language use and checks for plagiarism and proper citations. Scribbr, which now employs 65 people, was recently listed in the FT1000 of fastest growing European companies. Course Hero is clearly surfing the edtech wave, and has a valuation of $3.6 billion.
