Ball Sports
Ball sports are also popular at the Tilburg University Sports Center. Our sports instructors would love to welcome you to a training session. See the sports below for more information.
-
Soccer
We devote attention to fitness and tactics in turn, both with and without the ball. Everyone is welcome to join in the training sessions, even if you play for a different team at weekends. The trainer will determine which group you should join based on your skills and experience, and will tell you how often you are expected to attend.

Basketball
Basketball is one of the few sports that was invented entirely from scratch. It was devised in 1891 by James Naismith, a sports teacher working with the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in Springfield, Massachusetts. His aim was to create an intensive sport which could be practiced indoors during the winter months.
-
Volleyball
Tilburg's competitive volleyball teams play their league matches on Saturdays. There is also a league for less experienced players, with matches held on Tuesdays
-
Futsal
Futsal is a very intensive and fast-moving form of indoor football which appeals to the true enthusiast. Tactics are everything: you have to look for the weaknesses in the opposing team's defence and make your move while you can.
-
Cricket
Cricket is a relatively unknown sport in the Netherlands. Yet it is the second largest sport in the world. And it is played at the Tilburg University Sports Center.
-
Field hockey
The Sports Center offers plenty of opportunities to learn and play field hockey. There are special courses for beginners of both sexes.
-
Korfball
Student Korfball Association Melmac in Tilburg has three teams, one mixed weekend team, one mixed midweek team and one ladies midweek team. S.K.V. Melmac offers korfball for all levels, from beginners to top korfball players. It also offers korfball players the opportunity to continue to play matches at home during the weekend, while being able to train in Tilburg during the week.
-
Rugby
Rugby, the number one student sport in the Netherlands. The game is fast, hard, tactical but mostly a lot of fun. There is no sport that creates a bond like rugby does. The great part about rugby is that it does not matter if you’re tall, short, fat or skinny because for every body type there is a position in rugby. To fight for the win side by side with your mates every week is the most beautiful thing there is.
Besides that, the student rugby culture is full of traditions and customs, something that makes the sport very special. -
Handball
Handball is another fast-moving sport which makes great demands in terms of stamina and quick reactions. A handballer has to be able to defend, attack and be in exactly the right place at the right time. He must also be quick, a good thrower and a good jumper.
