Are you curious to one of the leading saxophonists of his generation? Do you want to see the greatest music talents in the Netherlands at work? Do you want to feel the energy of combining styles and enthusiastic collaboration? Then you should not miss this ‘Fast Future’ concert and the preliminary interview!
The American jazz saxophonist Donny McCaslin is probably best known for his acclaimed work as the bandleader of David Bowie's album ‘Blackstar’. A collaboration that inspired him to explore new artistic and musical paths. You can hear how that sounds on his most recent album ‘Blow’. McCaslin himself says: "Before working with David Bowie, this didn't seem possible to me".
In this ‘Fast Future’-concert, McCaslin challenges the young musicians of Jong Metropole by taking them into his daring fusion of jazz, rock and electronica and sets the tone with his improvised alternative style.
Jong Metropole ("Young Metropole") is a unique collaboration between the National Youth Orchestras of the Netherlands, the National Jazz Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands and the Metropole Orchestra.
Jong Metropole consists of the best musicians from the Dutch conservatoires. Young talented music students from both the classical and jazz worlds meet in this unique orchestra that brings both worlds together.
See here the after movie of the Jong Metropole summer tour 2022 "East meets West".
Before the concert, Donny McCaslin will be interviewed by music students from Jong Metropole. McCaslin collaborated with David Bowie and influenced Bowie with his jazz background. Conversely, pop music has also influenced jazz. The interview is about these influences. There are sound clips from Prince and Sting, among others, but also Snoop Dog, Kendrick Lamar, Anderson Paak and D'Angelo.
Are you curious? Come by, listen and ask any questions you would like to ask a musician who can tell you about it first hand!
