“Love has no borders.”

A passionate love story between two people of different backgrounds and temperaments, who are fatefully mismatched and yet condemned to each other. Set against the background of the Cold War in the 1950s in Poland, Berlin, Yugoslavia and Paris, the film depicts an impossible love story in impossible times.

After the Oscar-winning Ida (2013), director Pawlikowski delivers yet another tragic Polish history in stylish black and white. A love story now, loosely based on his parents' relationship. Musician Wiktor (Kot), leader of a folklore group, discovers the free-spirited singer Zula (Kulig) and falls madly in love with her. Thus begins a long-lasting romance that will be defied by heated emotions, political entanglements and fate. A film with eye-catching images, authentic music and sublime protagonists.

Awards

Cold War premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Critics praised its acting, screenplay, direction and cinematography. The film has received numerous accolades, including three nominations at the Academy Awards (Best Foreign Language Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography) and four at the BAFTA Film Awards, as well as six awards from seven nominations at the European Film Awards, winning the main Best Film Award.

Incredibly sexy. It's nice to see a movie that's actually about passion.
