The temptation to engage in criminal behavior
NIGHT TALK - What is it that causes crime to flourish here the way it does? Mayor of the city of Breda Paul Depla and professor Pieter Tops talk about temptation and undermining crime. (language: Dutch).
Adolescents making some extra money selling drugs in the school yard, an empty stable just perfect for an XTC lab, or a car hire company providing administrative or logistic services to dodgy characters. Who suffers as a result? Organized crime is thriving in the province of Brabant. What is it that causes crime to flourish here the way it does? What causes (some) Brabantians to be tempted to engage in criminal behavior? That is a question for the mayor! Our guests are Paul Depla, mayor of the city of Breda, and Pieter Tops, Professor of Public Administration and, among other things, co-author of ‘De Achterkant van Nederland’ (‘The flipside of the Netherlands’) on organized crime becoming increasingly entwined with regular, legitimate society.
