Applications Tilburg University Fund

The Tilburg University Fund supports projects outside of regular university funding. Tilburg University’s employees, and students can apply for the funding of a project. The Tilburg University Fund for instance provides grants to stimulate academic research and education. The grants are only available to projects that align with the objectives of the fund and meet the criteria described below.

Deadline

For every application, the following should be kept in mind:

Only future project expenses are eligible for coverage by a grant. It is therefore important that you hand in the application before the start of the project. 

Deadlines are linked to the board meetings of the university fund. This means there will be three deadlines per year:

• February 20, 2024 (board meeting on March 19, 2024)

• June 4, 2024 (board meeting on July 2, 2024)

• September 30, 2024 (board meeting on October 28, 2024)

Criteria

Research

Only researchers/scholars and students related to Tilburg University are eligible for a grant regarding academic research. Thanks to the support of donors, they can apply for funding for their academic projects. It is required however, that the projects have a direct link with Tilburg University and cannot be funded with the regular expenses. 

The following criteria apply for all applications regarding academic research projects:

  • The applied budget should lie between €5.000 and €30.000.
  • Alignment with the university’s strategic themes:
    • Health & Well-being
    • Talent Development & Job Market
    • Energy & Climate
    • Digitalization
  • The university fund aims to make a sustainable contribution to a better world through donations. Therefore, the projects we support must have a significant focus on societal relevance and impact. The application must clearly and extensively describe the impact of the research and how the researcher(s) will achieve it. This includes collaborations with societal partners, coordination with potential knowledge users, and direct impact on the strategic themes.
  • To encourage interdisciplinary research, a letter of recommendation signed by two vice-deans of research must be added to the application.
Education

Only researchers/scholars and students of Tilburg University are eligible for education grants. Thanks to the support of donors, they can apply for funding for their education projects. It is required, however, that the projects have a direct link with Tilburg University and cannot be funded with the regular expenses. 

The following criteria apply to all applications regarding academic education projects:

  • The applied budget should lie between €5.000 and €30.000
  • Does the project fit within the Tilburg’s Education profile of Knowledge, Skill, and Character? 
  • University-wide projects are a plus.
  • Projects focusing on inclusivity and accessibility are preferred.
  • Societal relevance and impact are also essential for education projects.

Applications

Your application must consist of:

Both documents must be sent to universiteitsfonds@tilburguniversity.edu with the title “Project <name main applicant> UFT Application round”

The application may be submitted in Dutch or English.

Decision-making process

After the deadline, the following steps will take place:

  • University Fund employees conduct a thorough initial check. They will verify if the submitted proposals are complete and meet the criteria.
  • The proposals are sent to the board members of the university fund. They will independently review the proposals.
  • The proposals are discussed in the board meeting, and decisions are made on which ones will receive funding.

The university fund relies on donations and other causes are supported in addition to the application round. Therefore, there is no fixed budget or fixed number of projects that will receive funding each deadline. 

Awarding of the Grant

Because the University Fund depends on donors, there are also certain obligations with regard to the awarded grant. For example, the University Fund expects regular updates that we can share with donors through various channels.  In addition, applicants may also be asked to explain their project at events for donors. After allocation, Tilburg University Fund will make agreements with the applicant about this.

Project completion

After completion of the project, an End Report must be submitted. The last 25% of the grant will only be paid if this report has been approved.
