The future of a “decentralized” currency

This one-hour lecture will teach you the basics about bitcoin and about blockchain, the technology that runs the cryptocurrency. Without getting too technical, Wim Maas, a lecturer at Tilburg University, will explain the reason why the bitcoin network has been running flawlessly since January 2009. He will also tell you why your bank is not too happy with the crypto movement.

After a brief overview of bitcoin’s history this lecture will focus on the future that the founders envisioned when creating bitcoin. In what way can society benefit from a “decentralized” currency and to what extent is this already the case? Learn how cryptocurrencies are empowering individuals, banking the unbanked, and ready to overhaul the financial services industry. At the end of the lecture there will be ample time for questions.
