Conference Dilemmas in Higher Education*

This year the Liberal Arts and Sciences program of University College Tilburg celebrates its second Lustrum. We are pleased to invite you to a conference on “Dilemmas in Higher Education” on Thursday, the 4th of April, 2019. The conference will be held in the Dante Building at Tilburg University.

Program

Educational institutes and policy makers often confront conflicts with dilemmatic nature. We will open the conference on Dilemmas in Higher Education with a plenary round chaired by the Dean of University College Tilburg, Prof. dr. Alkeline van Lenning. Joining her in this engaging conversation are the following experienced academic leaders:

Prof. dr. Odile Heynders, Head of Department of Culture Studies, Tilburg University

Prof. dr. James Kennedy, Dean of University College Utrecht

Prof. dr. Murray Pratt, Dean of Amsterdam University College

The conference will bring together leading academic scholars, researchers, guidance counselors and students from around the country to discuss some of the most common challenges in education. Twelve workshops in four parallel sessions will consider themes that cut across the three conference tracks:

  • Excellence vs. Inclusiveness
  • Freedom vs. Responsibility
  • Academic Skills vs. Practical Skills

At this event, we will also celebrate the launch of The University College Academics Network (UCAN) which is a network composed of scholars employed at Dutch liberal arts and sciences higher education institutions at the University Colleges in the Netherlands. UCAN unites the community of academics to further the mission of liberal arts education.

See the program for an overview of the speakers and topics of the parallel break-out sessions.
