Research seminar Prof. Pieter van Wesemael: 'The Living Cities Research Program: the case of Healthy Cities'

On Monday, 16th of January 2017 (from 12.30 PM to 2 PM), Prof. Pieter van Wesemael will be giving a seminar. Prof. van Wesemael (Professor of Architectural Design and Urban Cultures at the Eindhoven University of Technology) is a leading expert in urban culture, architectural design and sustainable spatial development. During the seminar (titled ‘The Living Cities Research Program: the case of Healthy Cities’), he will introduce the interdisciplinary ‘Living Cities research’ project, carried out by the Eindhoven University of Technology. His presentation will especially address the topical issues of how to create urban environments that minimize the risk of industrial and traffic pollution while promoting healthy lifestyle of their inhabitants.

Following Prof. van Wesemael’s presentation (from 2 PM to 3 PM), TiREG affiliates - Dr. Niels Karsten, Dr. Carlo Colombo and Dr. Linze Schaap – will discuss the development of the research project ‘Smart transformation of in city-regional law and governance’ (co-funded by the NWO and by the Dutch province of North-Brabant). The project aims at studying the legitimacy, robustness and effectiveness of innovative modes of governance at city-regional level, as well as the limits and opportunities of learning across such ways of governing. The presentation will focus on the organization of a cityregion-lab where international practitioners from partner institutions will jointly discuss the challenges emerging in the case of Brainport Eindhoven, the tripartite cooperation set up to stimulate economic development in the Eindhoven region.
