Research seminar Prof. Ron Boschma


Ron Boschma got a PhD degree in Economics at the Tinbergen Institute in 1994. Since 2005, Boschma is Full Professor in Regional Economics at Department of Social Geography and Planning at Faculty of Geosciences, Utrecht University, Netherlands. Boschma is also Professor 2 at the UiS Business School of Stavanger University in Norway since 2017. He has been Full Professor in Innovation Studies at Lund University in Sweden in the period 2013-2017, and director of the Centre for Innovation, Research and Competence in the Learning Economy (CIRCLE) at Lund University 2013-2015.

Boschma has published on the spatial evolution of industries, geography of innovation, the structure and evolution of spatial networks, agglomeration externalities and regional growth, and regional diversification. He has been one of the founders of Evolutionary Economic Geography, a new and successful stream in the field of Economic Geography, which also connects to neighbouring scientific fields like Regional Economics, Regional Science, Innovation Studies and Evolutionary Economics. He received a Honorary Doctorate from Marburg University in Germany in July 2013.

He is member of the Board of the International Regional Studies Association since 2015. Boschma was ranked by Thomson Reuters among the top 1% of cited researchers in all scientific fields worldwide in 2014, 2015 and 2016. He has been member of the Research, Innovation and Science Experts (RISE) High-Level Advisory Body to European Commissioner Carlos Moedas in the period 2015-2016.

Boschma is editor of Cambridge Journal of Region, Economy and Society, and member of the Editorial Board of other journals. Boschma has been deputy chief editor of Regional Studies 2008-2013.
