Organizing Impact in Society with Research

Date: Time: 16:00 Location: RTZ 203

With its education and research, Tilburg University wants to contribute to social issues. Hence the mission statement "Advancing Society". This ambition requires certain skills and knowledge from researchers.

TiU's Impact Team therefore organizes a number of workshops for interested researchers who would like to be in touch with society and who would like to deepen their collaborations.

The aim is to increase the use of research results in society. This is why we encourage knowledge sharing between all researchers at TiU on this subject and are working on competences that are important for the connection and cooperation with society.

For whom?

All researchers (from PhD to professor) are welcome to attend the meetings. We focus on researchers who want to make a difference in society with their research, or who are focused on contributing to solutions for the major challenges of today's society.

What are we going to do?

In the previous meetings, topics for a number of sessions were raised. On this basis, the subject of this meeting was chosen. There is still room for participants to indicate what is relevant to them for subsequent meetings. With this interaction we want to ensure that the topics discussed have added value and that overlap with other activities for researchers is avoided.

Speakers

  • Martin van der Broek- Program Manager Impact Team
Impact is one of the strategic themes of TiU. Researchers who want to make an impact in society are supported. As an introduction to the meeting Martin will explain the Tilburg model for generating impact through research which can also help you.
  • Edward van der Pol, Program Director Entrepreneurship Tilburg University
Edward discusses opportunities to increase the impact of research. A good starting point is to think about formulating research results as a distinctive solution at an early stage. A number of questions need to be answered. The Lean canvas can be used as a tool.

This gives the researchers a better idea of the steps they need to take in order to translate their research results into a desired solution to a societal question. Working with the Lean canvas is introduced. Finally, a number of practical learning experiences will be shared. This makes it clear what important success factors are for the market introduction of a method or a service.
