Harald Benink, Professor of Banking and Finance, was a guest on the Dutch current affairs television program Nieuwsuur. The program focused on the Hanseatic group, an informal alliance between the 'Hanseatic countries': The Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The countries are in favor of a strict economic policy in order to keep the currency union stable.

Benink fears that the growing influence of the Hansa will lead to further division within the Eurozone. "We see that those two cultures in the Eurozone are now clashing. It is northern Europe and the European Commission against a number of countries in southern Europe."Benink fears that the growing influence of the Hansa will lead to further division within the Eurozone.
