Impact Award: the nominees
The Tilburg University Impact Award will be presented for the first time this year. The Impact Award is an initiative of the Impact Program, which connects researchers from different fields to each other and to partners from outside the university. The Impact Program wishes to express its appreciation for research projects that have made a social and scientific impact. From the nineteen projects submitted, a jury chose three nominees. The scientists have a chance to win the title, 10,000 euros and a trophy. Scientists from Tilburg University were able to submit a proposal until May 25, 2020.
A total of 19 impressive projects were submitted, all of high quality and diverse in nature. The projects were assessed on societal and scientific impact. Societal impact includes demonstrable effects in society. Scientific impact is measured by the number of publications and innovative properties of the research. A jury, consisting of Prof. Koen Becking (chairman of the Executive Board of Tilburg University), Prof. Andrea Evers (Leiden University) and Prof. Bas van Bavel (Utrecht University), has assessed the studies on the basis of these criteria. Three studies came out best.
Academic Collaborative Center (ACC) Care for Older Adults of Tranzo, Andrea Rozema and Patricio Dalton are the three nominees for the Impact Award. The ACC Care for Older Adults breaks taboo with the research on "Love, intimacy and sexuality of the elderly in care homes". Andrea Rozema's research concerns the smoke-free zone in schools. Finally, Patricio Dalton focuses on new interventions to help small entrepreneurs in Indonesia grow.
The winner will be announced on 1 September 2020, during the Opening Academic Year. Due to the corona time, the Opening largely takes place online.
