Because we at Tilburg University understand that the development of the coronavirus has a great impact on you as a student, employee or campus visitor, we try to share as much information as possible about the guidelines of Tilburg University on this website. The information is regularly updated and updated based on the questions we receive.

Campus

Opening hours buildings

  • Everyone must follow the guidelines of the government and the RIVM. In addition to the hygiene measures of the RIVM, Tilburg University's guidelines have been drawn up. The rules of conduct of Tilburg University can be found at the entrance to the buildings. The walking routes are marked on the ground. Also note the signposting and stickers that indicate what is allowed or possible in certain places.
  • Students, staff, suppliers, and visitors moving in or through indoor spaces must wear face masks. In class, during exams, and when seated at a study place or workplace, face masks may be removed, provided the 1.5 meters distance is observed.
  • In principle, all meetings are digital. 
  • Library is open for visitors (loan/return). Access is only possible upon presentation of your Tilburg University card.
  • The Sports Center is open for tennis and bootcamp (outside) at a distance of 1.5 meters with a maximum of 2 people and only on registration. Team sports will resume as of March 3, 2021. Sports are played with the current teams in accordance with the coronavirus measures. When the training sessions will take place will be coordinated with the student sports associations. In addition to the sports bar, showers and changing rooms are also closed. It is not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages brought by yourself around the fields.
  • The restaurant is closed as of January 20.
  • Student boards work completely digitally from home. There is room to pick up materials daily from their own board rooms, by appointment through the administrator of Esplanade, between 09:00 and 12:00 hrs.
  • The lifts are included in the central cleaning program and are cleaned at the beginning of the working day. We advise you to wash your hands after using the lift and before entering the pantry. Elevator shafts are ventilated.

Within the frameworks set by the RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment) and the government, Tilburg University is working on scenarios to allow its academic education to continue on campus as much as possible in the academic year 2020/2021. In our opinion, physical proximity among the university community is an important part of academic education.

Tilburg University takes the following as points of departure.

  • We guarantee that we will offer ALL our education online this academic year (2020/2021). However, in our opinion, physical proximity within the university community is an important part of academic education. Therefore, we strive to provide some small-scale classes (e.g., seminars) on campus if possible.
  • In any case, keep in mind that education, activities and exams also take place online this academic year. This means that you must have a stable wifi connection (pay attention to this if you are looking for a room!) and a suitable PC or laptop with up-to-date software. Make sure you meet the minimum requirements. Also make sure your table or desk and your chair are suitable for study, and that it is not noisy.
  • This academic year, both online and on-campus examinations will be administered. All on-campus exams can also and simultaneously be taken online by those students who are unable to come to campus due to COVID-19 restrictions. The online exams will be taken using TestVision and Canvas. Where necessary, online proctoring will be used for the online exams.
  • If a student is not able to take examinations online or on campus, he or she can sign up for exam regulation I or II. Regulation I: taking an on-campus examination online in connection with restrictions or preferences by COVID-19. Regulation II: taking an online examination on campus in connection with privacy concerns, technical circumstances or special personal circumstances.   • In weeks 22-28 (May 31-July 18), some Tilburg University exams will be administered at the Ireen Wüst ice skating rink in Tilburg. The reason for moving to this location is to ensure that in person exams can be administered safely, taking into account the distancing rules.

  • We prioritize a safe and inclusive university community at all times, online and on campus.
  • We request that students study at home. Workplaces remain available for all students who are not able to study at home. Students can apply from their Tilburg University e-mail address to studentsupport@tilburguniversity.edu, stating their student number. Please mention in the subject line: Application study place and your 7-digit student number. After registration you will be informed how you can make a reservation for a study place.
  • LocHal also has workplaces available for students.

  • The contact between students and teachers is by e-mail. Students are not allowed to visit the department on campus.

Outgoing exchange 

To determine the impact of the coronavirus on student exchanges, the VSNU (Association of Universities in the Netherlands) has established a framework based on governmental guidelines. Within this framework, Tilburg University decides whether an exchange can proceed. The considerations are: a negative travel advice by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the decision of the partner university to cancel the exchange or in case a student withdraws from the exchange program.   • All students selected for an exchange in Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 were informed about alternatives to their planned exchange. Students who are continuing to plan for their Spring 2021 exchange are doing so at their own risk. Tilburg University cannot be held responsible for personal, financial and academic repercussions for the students, in case the exchange is cancelled, delayed or otherwise modified due to decisions on global, national or university level regarding the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Exchanges in the academic year 2021-2022 will be possible in line with the development of the pandemic as well as national, Tilburg University and partner university guidelines. Tilburg University strives to inform outgoing students selected for a Fall 2021 exchange by May 2021 about the exchange policy.

Incoming exchange 

  • The incoming exchange program for students from partner universities can go ahead in spring 2021. Students can travel to Tilburg and complete the exchange physically or may choose to stay in their home country and complete the exchange online. The Study Abroad & Exchange Team is in contact with all incoming students and the partner universities involved. They are kept informed as much as possible about the coronavirus situation in the Netherlands and the consequences for Tilburg University and the students’ stay. Please find an overview of the of the current Spring 2021 incoming exchange policy and answers to related questions in the FAQ section on exchanges.
  • Exchanges in the academic year 2021-2022 will be possible in line with the development of the pandemic as well as national, Tilburg University and partner university guidelines. Tilburg University strives to inform incoming students nominated for a Fall 2021 exchange at Tilburg University by May 2021 about the exchange policy.

Practical matters on (self-)quarantine

  • All students traveling from countries and regions mentioned on the following website of the Dutch government are strongly urged to self-quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. You are requested to stay in your accommodation during those 10 days and not to leave it at any time. More information about what self-quarantine means, can be found on the website of the Dutch government.

Working on campus

  • Employees work from home as much as possible. Please make agreements about this with your supervisor. Read the important information regarding working from home. Rules on working from home have been tightened as long as the new measures apply. Employees work from home, unless there is really no other option. Employees only come to campus for location-based work. Think of lecturers lecturing. Employees who cannot work from home due to their personal circumstances are also allowed to come to the university. The university will ensure that only employees who meet the following criteria are allowed to work on campus. This will be inventoried per unit and directed by the directors and corona coordinators:  
    • Providing or supporting physical education, recording digital education, and testing;
    • Carrying out site-specific (lab) research;
    • Executing business critical processes and processes that are necessary to maintain the overall business operations;
  • Employees who move around in the indoor spaces wear a mouth mask.

  • Do you come to campus? Then you follow the RIVM national general guidelines. In addition to the RIVM hygiene measures, the employee must observe the Tilburg University Guidelines. The Tilburg University rules of conduct can also be found at the entrances to the buildings.
  • Lecturers can use the Video Lectures & Recordings Request Form if they want to live stream a lecture from a lecture room or if they want to have a lecture recorded on campus.

  • Promotions and orations are from December 16 without an audience on location.  
  • Events and social gatherings such as drinks parties remain prohibited. Conference & Event Support will help organizers search for alternatives.
