Nine Tilburg University programs rated as best in their fields

Published: 30th September 2022 Last updated: 07th September 2023

In the Elsevier Beste Studies 2022 ranking, that was published on Thursday, September 29, four Tilburg University Bachelor’s programs and five Master’s programs are rated as the best of their kind.

Elsevier annually compares a large number of degree programs in Dutch higher education and then ranks each program within its own field. The new ranking is based on student assessments from the National Student Survey (NSE) 2022. In addition to the information on student satisfaction, the program reports compiled by Elsevier Weekblad and ResearchNed also contain information about accreditation reports, selection and admission requirements, the composition of the student population, study success, the labor market position of alumni, and the assessment of lecturers by students.

Number 1 programs

The Bachelor’s programs that were rated as the best programs of their kind are Economics, Tax Law (Fiscaal Recht), Online Culture, and Philosophy. The number 1 Master’s programs are those of Fiscal Economics, Strategic Management, International Business Law: Digital Innovation in Commerce and Finance, Philosophy, and the Research Master in Linguistics and Communication Sciences.

Medals for Tilburg University

Apart from the ranking per program, Elsevier also published a medal ranking on the basis of a comparison between the NSE scores of a specific program and the sector as a whole. Tilburg University achieved gold medals for the Master’s program of Labour Law and Employment Relations and the Research Master’s program in Individual Differences and Assessment. This means that these programs score significantly better than the sector average on 8 or more of the 11 NSE items that are used to calculate the rankings. There is also a silver medal for the Master’s program in Quantitative Finance and Actuarial Science (significantly better on 6 or 7 items) and a bronze medal (significantly better on 4 or 5 items) for our Philosophy Master’s program.
