In July and August, the Tilburg University Language Center tested the English level of approximately 50 refugees from Ukraine. Many of these were enrolled at universities in their home country. To continue their studies in the Netherlands, they must meet a certain level of English.

Some of them had a level that allowed them to rush through the application process and start their studies last week. Others scored below the level that is required to start doing a Bachelor’s here or at a different university. For them, the city of Tilburg and the Language Center are offering a relatively intensive course, trying to get them to this level in six months. The official kick-off was on Monday 5 September. The group was enthusiastic and talkative.

The city representative who was present was also impressed: “They dive right into the content during the first lesson. I love how motivating these lessons are and how actively they are already working together.” Language Center has good hopes of them achieving their B2 level by December.
